In October this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China announced the sixth batch of national industrial heritage sites, with four projects from CHN Energy making the list—the highest number among central enterprises in this round. With these additions, CHN Energy now holds seven recognized national industrial heritage sites.
The newly recognized sites include:
Plant Area of CHN Energy Wuhai Energy Co., Ltd.
1. Wuda and Haibowan Mining Bureaus of CHN Energy Wuhai Energy Co., Ltd.: Established in 1958 under the then Ministry of Coal, the government decided to build a modern steel plant in Baotou, Inner Mongolia during the First Five-year Plan to support economic development in ethnic minority regions. The Wuda and Zhuozishan coalfields were developed as fuel coal supply bases for this plant. Over time, they evolved into a specialized enterprise integrating coal production, washing and processing. Wuda and Haibowan Mining Bureaus feature the country's first fully 5G-connected mine and a national-level smart mine, positioning them as major contributors to Inner Mongolia’s economy with an annual output value exceeding 10 billion RMB.
Huanren Hydropower Station
2. Huanren Hydropower Station of GD Power Development Co., Ltd.: Located at the foot of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wunü Mountain, Huanren Hydropower Station was built in 1958 and began generating electricity in 1968 as the first hydropower project on the Hunjiang River. It also created Huanren Reservoir, the largest reservoir in Liaoning Province.

3. Jiaozuo Power Plant of Henan Electric Power Co., Ltd.: Established in 1905, Jiaozuo Power Plant has a 119-year history, making it one of the oldest power plants in Henan Province. It has relocated six times over the years and is among the few century-old power plants in China with a continuous and well-documented history that still operate today.
Hongfeng Power Plant Reservoir Dam
4. Hongfeng Hydropower Plant’s Maotiao River Cascade of Guizhou Electric Power Co., Ltd.: As part of China's Second Five-year Plan, the Hongfeng Hydropower Plant, built from 1958 to 1980, includes a six-station cascade on the Maotiao River. This group of plants represents one of China’s earliest and most comprehensive cascade hydropower developments.
CHN Energy has implemented various initiatives to preserve and carry forward its industrial heritage, aiming to safeguard significant historical and cultural assets. Protecting these sites will offer valuable resources for education and research on industrial history and culture.
