CHN Energy has made significant achievements in CO? capture technology. Its Low-energy CO? Capture, Resource Utilization, and Enhanced Oil Recovery and Sequestration Technology for Coal-Fired Power Plants project, developed by National Energy Group Coal-based Energy Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage Technology Research and Development Center (referred to as the National CCUS R&D Center), won the First Prize at the 2024 Power Science and Technology Awards.
As CHN Energy's first national-level CCUS R&D platform, the National CCUS R&D Center addresses the country's major needs for green and low-carbon transformation in coal-based energy. It coordinates internal and external resources, focusing on high-efficiency, low-energy CO? capture, various methods of CO? utilization, large-scale geological storage, and CCUS strategic policies. Several major technical research and demonstration projects have been launched in these areas.
The award-winning project, supported by national research programs such as the Key R&D Program and the 863 Program, took 10 years of collaborative efforts between industry, academia and research institutions. Key breakthroughs include low-energy absorbents, enhanced equipment performance and energy-saving processes. The project also developed technologies for CO?-driven enhanced oil recovery and safety monitoring of geological storage, creating an industrial demonstration system for low-concentration CO? capture, utilization and sequestration. A 150,000-ton/year post-combustion CCUS demonstration project for coal-fired power plants has been completed, resulting in innovative achievements in Low-energy CO? Capture, Resource Utilization, and Enhanced Oil Recovery and Sequestration Technology. The key performance indicators of the project have reached internationally advanced levels.
The Power Science and Technology Award is one of China's most prestigious and authoritative awards in the power industry, showcasing the latest and highest achievements in both domestic and international power technology. CHN Energy's award strengthens its influence in the CCUS field.
