As the world's largest coal producer, thermal power generator and coal chemical enterprise, CHN Energy is advancing the energy transition, accelerating green development and shifting from a reliance on “black gold” to a focus on “new green” initiatives.
In the first half of this year, CHN Energy produced 310 million tons of coal and sold 430 million tons. It also achieved 290 million tons in rail transport volume and 130 million tons in shipping across its two ports. The company’s coal chemical production reached 13.92 million tons. Guided by a new energy security strategy, CHN Energy expanded its renewable energy operations, with 12.42 million kilowatts of new energy projects initiated and 9.06 million kilowatts brought online in the first six months. By June 30, with major projects like the 1 million-kilowatt photovoltaic plant in Jinjie Township, Shenmu City, Shaanxi Province, and the 1 million-kilowatt Ningxia DC-supporting solar project coming online, CHN Energy's total renewable energy installed capacity surpassed 100 million kilowatts.
On March 22, the group launched its first full-stack AI research and application production line, marking the industrialization of AI in coal. This innovation links AI development with application and offers a model for advancing the coal industry with AI-driven solutions that enhance operations, intelligence and sustainability.
CHN Energy also utilizes an Internet+ approach to add green value to traditional energy production, with smart mining evolving rapidly to ensure high-quality coal supply. Based on its coal core, CHN Energy has established four 100-million-ton green and intelligent mining areas—Eastern Shenmu, Eastern Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and Eastern Ningxia-Wuhai. The company has achieved breakthroughs in technologies like 8.8-meter ultra-high mining, intelligent coal mining and tunneling, and unmanned truck driving.
Integrating multiple energy sources, CHN Energy is accelerating the construction of a new energy system. Alongside securing energy supply, the group promotes renewable energy and enhances coal-to-power and coal-to-renewable synergies. A prime example is the expansion of Zhongwei Power Plant by Ningxia Tengger Energy Development Co., Ltd., which began with concrete pouring for the main building of the 4x660 MW project. This progress marks substantial progress in building the first batch, first station and first peak-shaving power source of the nation’s largest wind-solar base project in sandy and arid areas.
CHN Energy is also enhancing energy conservation and emissions reduction to optimize energy consumption structures. With a focus on green transformation, the company is pursuing carbon-reducing technologies, developing coal-based new materials, and transitioning from oil and polyolefin products to a diversified product lineup including coal-based fuels, biodegradable plastics, and high-end carbon materials. These efforts contribute to the growth of high-value green products within the coal industry.
